There’s no better place to test a product than on the demanding
NORBA and World Cup downhill racing circuits. It’s where you make
or break a design, and Giant has been racing long and hard to bring
you the best possible performance available today.
In our relatively brief racing history, Giant downhill riders have
garnered US, United Kingdom, Canadian, European, World Cup and World
Championship honors. The DH design is an example of input from Giant
riders, who spend
countless hours training, testing and racing on the most demanding
terrain in the world.
As with other Giant designs, the DH suspension
system achieves what no other suspensions have been able to. In the
big hit, big drop
world of downhill racing and freeride competitions, most downhill
suspensions can handle the big hits. But to do so, pedaling efficiency
and small
bump sensitivity suffers. However, with Giant’s unique single
pivot four-bar linkage, the suspension is able to take big hits with
a progressive,
plush
8.25-inches of travel, while still being sensitive to small bumps,
such as braking bumps as you enter a hard corner. The more sensitive
the rear
end is to small bumps, the better your rear tire stays in contact
with the ground, and the better your rear brake works. The better your
rear
brake works, the later you can brake into the turn, which means you
carry more speed through the turn and accelerate faster out of it.
