Giant VT

The new VT (Variable Travel) is for off-road riders who want to ride it all, but want just one bike. The VT is lighter than a full-blown freeride machine, but tougher than an XC race rig. The VT suspension is influenced by our exclusive single-pivot four-bar DH design, combining single-pivot lateral rigidity and strength with a smooth, progressive four-bar linkage with up to 5.75 inches of travel. The Manitou Swinger 4-Way air shock has Stable Platform Valving (SPV), which resists pedal bobbing yet provides excellent small bump sensitivity. Put it all together and you have a bike with big-hit capability while at the same time being extremely sensitive to small bumps, as well as a drivetrain that has excellent pedaling efficiency while accelerating and climbing.

 
THE VT ADVANTAGE

The VT’s unique single pivot four-bar linkage offers several advantages over standard single pivot and four-bar linkage designs.

  • The single pivot provides excellent lateral stiffness for precise rear wheel tracking during hard cornering.
  • The four-bar’s linkage and shock placement creates a well-balanced frame and neutral handling characteristics by achieving a low center of gravity.
  • The four-bar’s position isolates the rear wheel from the suspension linkage pivots, creating a nearly vertical axle path that virtually eliminates pedal kickback and minimizes unwanted flex.
  • The four-bar linkage’s position and short leverage stroke makes the rear tire extremely sensitive to smaller bumps and keeps the suspension active during braking. This means that in addition to amazing shock absorption capability, there is minimal brake lock-out so the rear tire stays glued to the ground for phenomenal rear brake performance.The four-bar linkage’s inherent anti-bob characteristics further enhance the bike’s pedaling efficiency.
  • The naturally progressive spring rate created by the four-bar’s leverage ratio means big hits are handled without the shock bottoming out.
  • The Manitou Swinger 4-Way air shock has been specially tuned to match the VT’s motion ratio (wheel travel ÷ shock travel).
